We have a high standard for design and materials, so we exclusively use leather that is made from cow-skin, tanned in a traditional manner using tannin's and other organic ingredients found in various vegetable matter. In other words we use only vegetable tanned leather, to make our products more desirable to those seeking a more organic leather experience and also for the ultimate quality and durability.
Vegetable tanned leather:
Vegetable tanning is one of the oldest natural methods that our ancestors used to tan the leather. This method in which process the hides in a pure and natural way without using harmful chemicals. The process is used in order to stabilise the skins and be able to process the resulting leather. It is a traditional, artisanal process that takes advantage of the tannic acids naturally found in some plants, by using the barks, branches, leaves or even some fruits in some specific techniques. The actual tanning process takes between one and three months.
We use full grain leather, which is the highest grade available. Full grain leather is the hides that retain their entire grain (top layer). It’s the strongest part of the hide and it gives the leather a prized natural look, texture and durability.
Marks accumulate on the grain over an animal's lifetime, so only the cleanest hides can be used full grain, making these hides the most expensive as they are the hardest to find. For that reason we use the full grain hides to ensure we get the finest quality out of the rarest and most time consuming process and methods.
Our leather products are handcrafted by highly skilled workers, using only the most traditional tools and techniques, taught to them over generations of leather workers. This ensures a beautiful, handmade, long-lasting product, containing its very own unique history.
